Music Classes

When?

This position is available from the beginning of September 2010. Preferred stay until the end of June 2011 (full school year), six months also considered.

Job Description

The volunteer will be responsible for planning and teaching daily music classes for the children in Cenit´s primary school. The volunteer will be the primary teacher, rather than a teaching assistant, but will have the support of an Ecuadorian teacher who will assist in keeping order. The class typically focuses primarily on singing, since the school has few musical instruments, but recorders are also available for use in the classroom. Interested long-term volunteers may also be able to lead a choir for children who show musical talent. Musical training and teaching experience desired.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning a course of musical study appropriate to each level
  • Planning each class
  • Delivering classes of 40 minutes in the primary school
  • Maintaining discipline
  • Being an active member of the teaching staff (attending meetings, etc.)
  • Raising funds for the music program (e.g., for the purchase of instruments)
  • Possibly organizing and leading a choir

Salary

This is a volunteer position without financial compensation.
