Job Description

The Volunteer Coordinator is a crucial member of the CENIT team who acts as a liaison between international volunteers and donors and the Ecuadorian staff. He/she is responsible for ensuring that volunteers have a positive experience at CENIT, that they provide a quality service to the community, and that they work effectively and collaboratively with the permanent CENIT staff. This is a full-time job and requires an individual with a serious, mature attitude and a genuine commitment to the aims of CENIT as an organization. It is a rewarding position for someone who can commit to a longer time (preferred 1 year). The coordinator, on a regular basis, will be required to:

Responsibilities include:

  • Recruit long-term, Spanish speaking volunteers and assign them an appropriate placement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with organizations that send volunteers to CENIT.
  • Supervise and support volunteers in their work and CENIT, and provide them with the necessary information to perform their job well.
  • Monitor volunteer progress and assure their well-being through meetings, conversations, and written reports.
  • Act as a liaison between foreign volunteers and national staff.
  • Maintain contact with ex volunteers, and encourage the success and creation of home country networks.
  • Constantly interact with foreign volunteers to provide them with all the necessary information and insure that all contracts with them are fulfilled.
  • Turn in a monthly balance sheet of all volunteer run programs to the Director of CENIT.
  • Develop improved marketing strategies to increase sales of all CENIT products.
  • Encourage maturation, improvement, and innovation in and of all CENIT programs, specifically those with volunteer involvement.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a self-motivating, intelligent, dedicated individual with excellent time management and interpersonal skills.  The successful candidate will have some cross-cultural experience, as well as basic experience in business administration.  The candidate will possess:

  • Belief in the organization's mission and understanding of the challenges and rewards of working in a non-profit, community-based organization.
  • Bachelor's degree or ability equal to that usually derived from an accredited college or university.
  • Written and verbal proficiency in both Spanish and English.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sufficient dedication to commit long-term to a rewarding yet non-paid position, and the means to finance such a stay.
  • Experience in office administration: demonstrated computer skills, knowledge of rudimentary accounting, and the ability to provide account transparency sufficient to fulfil the needs or foreign donors.
  • Determination to overcome any cultural barriers between volunteers from differing cultures, or between volunteers and local staff.
  • Strategically oriented thinking aimed to improve and stabilize both the volunteer department and other departments at CENIT, with the goal of improved functionality and diminished disorganization caused by frequent volunteer turnover.
  • Strong facilitation and training abilities with knowledge of group dynamics and youth development.
  • Desire to improve the lives of working street children and their families.

Salary

This is a volunteer position without financial compensation.
